How fit do I need to be to do this trek?

Annapurna Base Camp is a Grade B or a moderately difficult trekking route. So any fit person can do this trek, even if you do not have any previous experience. You should be aware of what to expect and mentally prepare for it. Then, as long as you will too, you can.

How long do we walk every day when doing Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

On average, you walk about 4 to 6 hours per day. One or two days can be as less as 3hrs and one or two days can be as long as 7hrs.

What is the highest altitude reached in this trek?

The highest altitude reached is 4190m. This is the elevation of Annapurna Base Camp. ABC is the highest we will climb in this trek.

What about battery charging and hot shower facilities?

Yes, you can charge batteries en route. Charger should be brought. There are hot shower facilities as well. You may have to pay a certain amount for both ($1-$2). Negotiate. Also, a hot water facility could be free at a lower elevation.

Are there ATMs on the way to Annapurna Base Camp?

No. There are no ATMs on this trek route. You will have to draw enough cash in Pokhara or Kathmandu. There are a number of ATMs in these cities. Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. So money should be exchanged before the start of the trek.

What about internet access?

Yes. The Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. The Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.

Is it necessary to hire Guides/trekking agency for Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

Not really. It depends on you. If you want, ABC trekking can be done independently. You could hire a guide and a porter by yourself instead of going through an agency or not hire a guide at all. Although, not having a guide can be a little problematic during the offseason. It really depends on you. Is it your first time in Nepal? How confident are you of being able to find your way around? How pressed on time are you? If you go through an agency, it will be costlier but everything will be planned. You will only have to come, trek and return.

How much do guides and porters cost?

For the Annapurna region, pay for guides range from $20 to $30 per day and porters take $15 to $25 per day.

This 8-day itinerary is a “Grand Kenya” loop. It covers the unique arid wildlife of the North, the cool forested highlands, the rhino sanctuaries of the Rift Valley, and the world-famous plains of the Mara.

Explore Kenya’s northern and central regions on this epic safari. Discover rare species in Samburu, the cool forests of Aberdares, pink flamingos of Lake Nakuru, and the sweeping plains of Maasai Mara.

Day 1 :

Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve

Morning: Depart Nairobi and drive north, crossing the equator and passing the foothills of Mount Kenya (approx. 5–6 hours).
Afternoon: Arrive in Samburu and head out for a sunset game drive.
Highlight: Samburu is home to the "Special Five": the Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Beisa Oryx, and the Gerenuk (the gazelle that stands on its hind legs).
Overnight: Samburu National Reserve.

Day 2 :

Full Day in Samburu

All Day: Morning and afternoon game drives. Focus on the Ewaso Ng'iro River, where elephants, crocodiles, and leopards are frequently spotted.
Cultural Note: The Samburu people are cousins to the Maasai; the area offers a very authentic look into their nomadic lifestyle.
Overnight: Samburu National Reserve.

Day 3 :

Samburu to Aberdare National Park

Morning: Drive toward the Aberdare mountain range (approx. 3–4 hours).
Afternoon: Experience a different ecosystem—misty moorlands, deep ravines, and waterfalls.
The Experience: You will stay at a "Tree Hotel" (like The Ark or Treetops). These lodges overlook floodlit waterholes, allowing you to watch rhinos, buffalo, and elephants from the comfort of the lodge deck all night.
Overnight: Aberdare National Park.

Day 4 :

Aberdares to Lake Nakuru National Park

Morning: Descend into the Great Rift Valley, stopping at the 74-meter Thomson’s Falls (approx. 4 hours drive).
Afternoon: Game drive in Lake Nakuru, a sanctuary for both Black and White Rhinos.
Birdlife: While water levels change, the lake is famous for its flamingos and pelicans. It is also one of the best places in Kenya to spot leopards.
Overnight: Lake Nakuru.

Day 5 :

Lake Nakuru to Maasai Mara

Morning: Drive across the floor of the Rift Valley toward the Maasai Mara (approx. 5–6 hours).
Afternoon: Arrive in the Mara for an introductory game drive. The scenery changes from scrubland to the iconic "endless" savanna plains.
Overnight: Maasai Mara.

Day 6 :

Exploring the Maasai Mara

Full Days: You have two full days to explore the vastness of the Mara.
Wildlife: Seek out the Big Five. During the Migration season (July–October), your guide will focus on the Mara River crossings to witness wildebeest braving crocodiles.
Activities: You can choose a full-day drive with a picnic lunch or split the day into morning and afternoon drives with a midday siesta.
Overnight: Maasai Mara.

Day 7 :

Exploring the Maasai Mara

Full Days: You have two full days to explore the vastness of the Mara.
Wildlife: Seek out the Big Five. During the Migration season (July–October), your guide will focus on the Mara River crossings to witness wildebeest braving crocodiles.
