How fit do I need to be to do this trek?

Annapurna Base Camp is a Grade B or a moderately difficult trekking route. So any fit person can do this trek, even if you do not have any previous experience. You should be aware of what to expect and mentally prepare for it. Then, as long as you will too, you can.

How long do we walk every day when doing Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

On average, you walk about 4 to 6 hours per day. One or two days can be as less as 3hrs and one or two days can be as long as 7hrs.

What is the highest altitude reached in this trek?

The highest altitude reached is 4190m. This is the elevation of Annapurna Base Camp. ABC is the highest we will climb in this trek.

What about battery charging and hot shower facilities?

Yes, you can charge batteries en route. Charger should be brought. There are hot shower facilities as well. You may have to pay a certain amount for both ($1-$2). Negotiate. Also, a hot water facility could be free at a lower elevation.

Are there ATMs on the way to Annapurna Base Camp?

No. There are no ATMs on this trek route. You will have to draw enough cash in Pokhara or Kathmandu. There are a number of ATMs in these cities. Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. So money should be exchanged before the start of the trek.

What about internet access?

Yes. The Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. The Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.

Is it necessary to hire Guides/trekking agency for Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

Not really. It depends on you. If you want, ABC trekking can be done independently. You could hire a guide and a porter by yourself instead of going through an agency or not hire a guide at all. Although, not having a guide can be a little problematic during the offseason. It really depends on you. Is it your first time in Nepal? How confident are you of being able to find your way around? How pressed on time are you? If you go through an agency, it will be costlier but everything will be planned. You will only have to come, trek and return.

How much do guides and porters cost?

For the Annapurna region, pay for guides range from $20 to $30 per day and porters take $15 to $25 per day.

Day 1 :

Nairobi to Amboseli National Park

Morning: Depart Nairobi for a drive south (approx. 4 hours) toward the border of Tanzania.
Mid-Day: Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch.
Afternoon: First game drive in Amboseli National Park. This park is the best place in Africa to see huge "Tuskers" (giant elephants) against the backdrop of a snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro.
Evening: Relax at the lodge; clear evenings offer the best views of the mountain peak.

Day 2 :

Full Day in Amboseli

Morning: Sunrise game drive. The mountain is usually clearest in the early morning.
Highlights: Visit the Observation Hill, which provides a panoramic view of the swamps below where elephants and hippos congregate. Look for cheetahs on the dry salt pans and lions in the tall grass.
Afternoon: Visit a Maasai village (optional) to learn about their coexistence with wildlife.
Evening: Overnight in Amboseli.

Day 3 :

Amboseli to Lake Naivasha

Morning: A long but scenic drive (approx. 6–7 hours) toward the Great Rift Valley. You will stop at the Great Rift Valley Viewpoint for photos.
Mid-Day: Arrive at Lake Naivasha, a freshwater lake at the highest elevation of the Rift Valley.
Afternoon: Take a Boat Safari to see hundreds of hippos and fish eagles. Later, enjoy a Guided Walking Safari on Crescent Island, where you can walk among giraffes, zebras, and waterbucks (there are no predators here).
Evening: Overnight at a lakeside lodge.

Day 4 :

Lake Naivasha to Maasai Mara

Morning: Depart for the Maasai Mara National Reserve (approx. 5 hours). The road descends into the vast savanna plains.
Mid-Day: Arrive at your camp/lodge in time for lunch.
Afternoon: Embark on your first game drive in the Mara. This is the northern extension of the Serengeti and is home to the highest concentration of predators in Kenya.
Evening: Dinner and overnight in the Maasai Mara.

Day 5 :

Full Day in the Maasai Mara

All Day: You have a full day to explore. You can choose to do a full-day drive with a picnic lunch by the Mara River (where the Great Migration crossings happen) or split it into morning and afternoon sessions.
Wildlife: Seek out the Big Five (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo, and Rhino). If traveling between July and September, you will witness the Great Migration—millions of wildebeest and zebras covering the plains.
Optional: A sunrise Hot Air Balloon safari over the plains (requires pre-booking).
Evening: Farewell dinner at the camp.

Day 6 :

Maasai Mara to Nairobi

Morning: One final early morning game drive to catch the animals at their most active.
Mid-Day: After breakfast, begin the drive back to Nairobi.
Afternoon: Arrive in Nairobi by late afternoon (around 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM).
Drop-off: Transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight or your hotel.
